Notch Slams Windows 8 on Twitter

Today, Markus Persson aka Notch, co-founder of Mojang and creator of Minecraft, has attacked Windows 8 today in a tweet he made on his page. He has joined in the ranks of other online personalities like Gabe Newell, who has claimed that Windows 8 is “a catastrophe”.

The tweet itself reads:

“Got an email from microsoft, wanting to help “certify” minecraft for win 8. I told them to stop trying to ruin the pc as an open platform.”

It seems quite apparent that he isn’t too impressed with the direction that Microsoft is taking with Windows 8 and doesn’t seem to want to change his stance until they change theirs. The comment almost comes as surprising, given that Microsoft has been quite friendly with Notch in the past, taking into consideration how well he was treated by them after the Xbox 360 port of Minecraft.

Of course, this news must strike a heavy blow right at the heart of Microsoft. The amount of people Minecraft brings to their platform- as well as the amount of money the Xbox 360 port made- is huge.

The decision to stand against the new operating system is almost admirable. A lot of people have been unsatisfied with Windows 8. Greater computing capabilities aside, a closed source and an interface that is strangely enough, least comfortable for PC users, make for an unhappy consumer base. It will be certainly interesting to see how far this goes.
