Microsoft have announced that Lionhead studios are hard at work on the next entry in the Fable series for Xbox One – Fable Legends.
The first game in the series since 2012s ambitious but ultimately flawed, Kinect only adventure: Fable: The Journey, Legends looks like its returning to the series roots with a visual art style and setting which looks much more like the original Fairytale setting of the original fable rather than the mock colonial period setting of II and III.
The games first cinematic trailer gives a vague indication of what to expect, being developed using Unreal Engine 4 the game promises to be rather pretty. But much more exciting is news that Legends will be the first game in the series to offer cooperative multiplayer for up to four players who will work together to conquer dungeons and empty of them of their delicious loot.
The role of the villain has also been drastically altered, rather than just an angrier version of the hero, players who decide to play the bad guy will now be able to command hordes of monsters and minions as well as lay traps and environmental hazards to stop those annoying goody two shoes that have entered your cosy new dungeon unannounced.
Villains will also be able to submit orders to their Minons during play using smartglass if they want to continue to get the drop on other hero players which may be playing in the same room.
In short a PVP/ Coop based Fable, set before or at the same time as the original with potentially a very different game play experience for heroes and villains that sounds a lot like player driven cross between Gauntlet and Dungeon Keeper.
If that doesn’t excite you in some small way, well. You might want to check your pulse.
