Konami have announced that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be a seperate release and is in fact the prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and will serve as a means of introducing players to the new open world gameplay elements that will feature heavily in The Phantom Pain such as changing weather conditions and the game’s new day and night cycle.
In Ground Zeroes players will once again take on the role of the Legendary Big Boss as he infiltrates a Cuban prison camp as part of a rescue mission which will set in motion a series of events that will be resolved in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Explaining the relationship between the two titles, the game’s director Hideo Kojima stated “The advanced capabilities of the FOX Engine have allowed me to tell the new story in a new way. There will be a significant difference in what Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain brings to the series, so we want to ease players into the new open world environment and its potential. As such, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes has been designed to introduce key elements, allowing them to fully benefit from all that the new game will offer.”
