An annual non-commercial event in Seoul is claiming more and more victims as its popularity spreads like a virus. Not all viruses are bad though, and The Cursed Hero has always been a fan of eternal life, even if that life requires our team to eat brains. As a result, combing through old clothes and buying make-up absorbed Saturday morning. For that evening, it would be time for the 2013 Seoul Zombie Walk!
Currently, the Facebook page for the fantastic gathering of the walking dead has about 900 likes. The page is also being filled with photos of the gruesomely made-up participants. Thus, be sure to type “Seoul Zombie Walk” into your Facebook search engine to show some undying love and support. Now, let’s begin.
First, before we infected ourselves we double-checked the FB map for the meeting point. We weren’t sure if being a zombie would make our team forget, and we couldn’t break character by strolling about with glistening skin and an iPad like a Twilighter. “Pffft!” to that. Next, we began our transformation.
The couple that eats brains together stays together! Or, something like that. We then began to look at Silent Hill pictures (from the game, not the terrible films) and that made me want some bandages to look even more messed up. After we finished all of our work, we took the subway to WitJanDari park. If you have never taken a subway dressed as a zombie, then you simply must add it to your bucket list. The primary reason is that young kids will LOVE you!
We were a little nervous when we first exited the subway. Thank goodness a horde was awaiting us in the park. I mean, I- ugh. Brain? Brain. Brain, brain, brain, brain, brain- BRAIN!
Kim Minwoo is in-charge of the event, and as soon as he yelled, “Let’s walk,” The Cursed Hero jumped into character and began moaning. The unsuspecting had no idea what they were in for. Some residents of Seoul screamed and scurried away while others began to capture the bizarre sight on their mobile devices. Check out the living dead of Seoul below:
The 2013 Seoul Zombie Walk stopped at the hip cafe known as Zombie Coffee for group photos and finished at Hongdae Park. The walk itself was about 2-hours and the zombies flexed their creative muscles as a Santa Claus zombie, Michael Jackson, and even zombie hunters eventually appeared.
As you can see above, each person brought their own styles. Some bought beer and strolled while visiting with others and some made it a family event. Each person dressed as a zombie was rewarded with a discount on drinks at the after-party. Cranberry-vodkas and shots were only W3,000, or about $2.50. The final word is that the Seoul Zombie Walk deserves your support. Be sure to like the FB page to keep up to date with future events.
