The Future, Unorganized DLC Injustice Roster

Over the past few months, Zatanna and Martian Manhunter became DLC characters on the Injustice: Gods Among Us roster. Fans of both the popular DC comic arc as well as the brawler have, therefore, been debating which characters would be available next.

Ed Boon of Warner Brothers then sent out a tweet about home security systems with hints to the next DLC member. According to the tweet, which is below, the next DLC figure will be Green Arrow’s backbone, Black Canary.

Regardless, the internet’s buzzing with unfounded messages demanding Captain Cold as well as other personal favorites. Thus, let’s turn to a different source. Do not just throw out favorites and stomp your feet as though you have the powers of Firestorm and can simply manifest beings from thin air. Rather, focus on the newest update to the iOS version of Injustice. Prior to Martain Man Hunter’s début as a DLC fighter, he was a support card on the iOS version. Although Zatanna was nowhere in sight, this does not mean that we can’t predict most of the eventual members.

This week, the iOS version of Injustice added a Facebook feature. This feature expanded the available cards in the game, and those newest cards contain DC heroes and villains that are not yet available in either version of the game.

The cards with hearts add health bonuses to characters and the cards with clinched fists add damage to attacks. The roster also has a few predictable arrivals. Starfire is widely remembered as Robin’s love interest from the animated Teen Titans series, and Kilowog always falls in behind Earth’s Green Lantern. However, more sinister villains like Parrallax and Black Manta offer very intriguing options.

First, how would Parrallax appear in the game? Would he be a “giant” in the manner of the larger scale bruisers in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom? Would he be able to possess other characters or manifest the insane Hal Jordan?

Second, Black Manta deserves a roster spot soon. He is not just simply the human equivalent to Aquaman with a helmet. More specifically, Black Manta is the embodiment of illogical, racist loyalty that leads to a distorted world order. He is off-balance, intelligent, and dangerous enough to keep Batman interested, and he can throw down with the best of them. For instance, in DC’s last animated movie Justice League: Flashpoint he was a huge problem even for the combined efforts of Cyborg, Grifter, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Batman.

Last, it is nice to see at least one of DC’s elementals appear. Swamp Thing was the first DC character that followed Superman to the silver screen in 1982, and the result from Wes Craven was quite good. Incorporating plant-based attacks and regenerative abilities into a fighter may be the best spring board for other DLC’s with elemental based powers, such as Poison Ivy, Firestorm, Red Tornado, Captain Cold, Mr. Twister, and Fire and Ice.

The main problem with this list of characters is that one cannot predict when they will become available. But, the support cards in the iOS card-fighter may be just the foreshadowing gamers need. The complete list of characters that appear as cards in the game, but that we have not seen as DLC’s yet are the following:

The Riddler, Arella (Raven’s mother), the Sinestro Corps (all members), Natas, Poison Ivy, Non, Guardians, Green Lantern Corps (all members), Ursa, Sensei Dragoncat, Trigon, Lor-Zod (in Nightwing armor), Birds of Prey (Black Canary, Katanna, and either Black Alice or Starling, we are not sure?), Zeus, Isis, Power Girl, Bizarro, Oracle, Supergirl, Brainiac, Doctor Fate, Darkseid, Ra’s Al Ghul, Kilowog, Tim Drake, Hawkman, Ravager, Black Manta, Starfire, Parallax, Talia al Ghul, Swamp Thing, Gorilla Grodd, and The Spectre.

Now, let the debates begin again! Which of the latter characters are you itching to control? Should we organize and begin tweeting Ed Boon to push for one or two particular characters not on the list? Be sure to message me what you think.
